EP is correct.

I used the same method as EP and found

As x increases by 2,   P(x) increases by 6

This is a linear relationship, hence it will be a line.   

The gradient will be  6/2 = 3

The y intercept is 2

so

the line is

P(x)=3x+2

The altitude  of the  cone  =   7sqrt(3)   cm

The radius  of the  cone =  7  cm

And  DG = FE   so 

6^2  - (10 - x)^2  =  8^2  - x^2      simplify

36  - x^2 + 20x -100  =  64  - x^2

-64 + 20x  =  64

20x  =  128

x  =  128 / 20   =  6.4

So  FB   = 6.4

And  

FE   =   sqrt  ( BE^2  - FB^2)  =   sqrt ( 8^2  - 6.4^2)  =   4.8

So   area  of  right triangle DAE  =  (1/2)(AD)(AE)  = (1/2)(6)(8) =  24      (1)

And the area  of DEFG =  (DE)(FE)  =  10 * 4.8  =  48     (2)

Ok I looked at the answer on my math program and it said to subtract 6 from both sides and then factor... so after subtracting 6 they got 
(x^2 + 2)(2y^3 - 3) = 143

and went from there.

rounding to the nearest integer means anything from 7.5 to 8.49 will be rounded to 8

rounding to the nearest 10th means anything from 8.45 to 8.54 will be rounded to 8.5

   Then according to the first rule above, rounding to the nearest integer will result in 9

So any number from 8.45 to 8.49 would cause this scenario...rounding to the nearest integer will result in '8'   

    if you FIRST round to the nearest 10th you will round to 8.5     then rounding to the nearest integer results in '9' ....
