It's actually the same when you cut out the corners because there are now 3 faces in place of the corner cut, and before there were 3 faces facing outwards on each corner. So the surface area is 2(5*7)+2(5*8)+2(7*8)=2*35+2*40+2*56=70+80+112=262.

There are two ways to break up into rectangles. 

Either vertically or horizonatally(for this one)

If we do vertical, we have 2 rectangles that are size of 3*5 and 2*4.

3*5 + 2*4 = 15 + 8 = 23.

If we split it the other way, 

3*3 and 2*7.

9 + 14 = 23.

It's pretty simple.

First you split the shape into any shape like a square or a rectangle. If you were to split it into 2 rectangles you would then find the area of each of them then add them up. Like for this one 23.

Hi! I agree with you about that people dump homework questions here... I ask homework questions sometimes my self because I do want to learn because I have to take an advance corse that I dont always understand. I do want to learn but I also hate seeing when I get questions wrong(who likes getting questions wrong anyways!). I post here so I can get an answer AND explnation!
