Eh, never mind....as another poster pointed out to me, the questioner is using "sqrt 5" to mean " ⁵√ "   etc.,  ....so Alan's answer is good !!!!

(√3)x² = 8    divide both sides by √3

x²  =  8/√3    take the square root of both sides

x = ±(8/√3)   ( or about ±4.619 )

The vertical lines either side of a varaible or number mean take the absolute value, they are not lower-case l's.

For example, if x = -7 then |x| is just 7.
