How about this combination Ginger.

Every row has a rook

and every column has a rook

So it has been counted twice.

There are 8! such combinations that have been counted twice.

Using the square of the distance formula

(2a - 4)^2  + ( a - 4 - -7)^2  =  (2 sqrt 2)^2

4a^2 - 16a + 16 + a^2 +6a + 9 = 8

5a^2 -  10a + 17 = 0

This will not produce  real number values for "a"

But....the product of all possible values for "a" =   17 / 5
