   (3.5 x 10^7) ÷ (1.7 x 10^-4)  =  (3.5 ÷ 1.7) x (10^7 ÷ 10^-4)  =  2.1 x 10^11

   (1.5 x 10^-8) ÷ (7.5 x 10^-9)  =  (1.5 ÷ 7.5) x (10^-8 ÷ 10^-9)  =  0.2 x 10^1  =  2

Remember:  divide the numbers; subtract the exponents.

If you need to factor the expression:  2x² - xy  =  x(2x - y)

But, this might help:

If you are solving an inequality that requires multiplication or division:

1) If you multiply or divide both sides by a positive number, keep the direction of the inequality the same.

    Examples:       2x > 12                                            x/5 < 3

                            x > 6   (divide by 2)                            x < 15         (multiply by 5)

2) If you multiply or divide both sides by a negative number, switch the direction of the inequality.

    Examples:       -2x > 12                                            -x/5 < 3

                            x <  -6   (divide by -2)                           x > -15         (multiply by -5)

Split 190 lb into 5 parts, so 1 part = 190/5 = 38.

Use the distributive property to simplify:  2(s - 5t)  =  2(s) - 2(5t)  =  2s - 10t

7 + 2s - 5t

If you start with mg sin(A) = umg cos(A)

and divide both sides by mg, you get  sin(A)  = ucos(A)

Divide both sides by cos(A) to get  tan(A) = u

If you enter 19° for A:  u = tan(19) -->  u = 0.34

P=a+4b+3c   to solve for a,  just subtract 4b and 3c from both sides....this gives....

P-4b-3c = a
