And we know that

And that

Using the first equation, we have that y = 39 - x and subbing for y in the second, we have
2x + (1/3)(39 - x) = 33 simplify
2x + 13 - (1/3)x = 33 multiply through by 3 to clear the fraction
6x + 39 - x = 99
5x + 39 = 99 subtract 39 from both sides
5x = 60 divide by 5 on both sides
x = 12 sq units this is the area of A
And 39 - 12 = 27 sq units .... is the area of B
