ok so lets get to work!

17-5(2x-9)=(-6+10)+4

now first of all we will multiply 5 by 2x and -9 which gives us -10x and -45.also we will subtract -6 and 10, becoz 10 is bigger with a positive sign , we will put a positive sign in 4.

17 - 10x - 45 = 4 + 4

now we will rearrange the numbers in the first expression and what do you thinka bout the second one?we will simply add the two 4's.

17 - 45 -10x = 8

now subtact 17 and 45

-28 - 10x = 8

now we will take 28 to the other side and add it to 8....we are adding it becoz when we take a number or a variable to another side we change its sign from minus to plus, multiplication to division and vice versa.

-10x = 8 + 28

-10x = 36

now to get x we will take -9 to the other side and divide by 36 which will give us our x....yepp

x = 36/10

now what do you think whats x

ofcourse x is

x = 3.6

so that easy it was!

It still means that a is negative. If the 1 in 1/a was negative it would make the a positive.

If a is negative then 1/a is negative too.
