I assume this house front is an ISOSCELES triangle

The height is listed as   (b+1)       if you drop a plumbline from the apex (which means you draw a line from the high point to the base)   you will create TWO  RIGHT triangles with two legs legs that measure h (which is (b+1))   and    1/2b

the area of EACH of these triangles   is  1/2 x Leg1 x Leg2        =    1/2 (b+1)(1/2b)     but there is TWO of these triangles, so the total area is two times this

2  x   1/2 (b+1)(1/2b) = 15

(b+1)(1/2b)=15

1/2b^2 +1/2b = 15

1/2b^2 + 1/2b - 15 = 0

b^2 + b - 30 = 0

(b+6)(b-5) = 0       so b = base = -6 or 5   (-6 won't work as a measurement so the answer is 5)       the height is (b+1) =  6

therefore 15 = (1/2x) * (x + 1) 
15 = x^2 / 2 + x/2 
30 = x^2 + x 
x^2 + x - 30 = 0 
(x + 6) (x - 5) = 0 from factorizing 
Therefore x = 5 since x cant be a negative number 
so base = 5m and height = 6m

Let the FIRST number be  (2x + 1)     I put it in this form to be sure the answer is an ODD number

The SECOND number woud then be  (2x + 3)

The THIRD number would be (2x + 5)

Add these three terms together to get 117

(2x+1) + (2x+3) + (2x+5) = 117    then solve for 'x'

6x + 9 = 117

6x=108

x=18         BUT remeber the FIRST number is (2x+1)    so the first number would be  37     then 39   then 41

2/5  1/4  3/8  15/36          Like another recent example on this forum, you can convert to decimal form or find a common denominator to determine if they are less the 1/2.

Two ways to do this    1 convert the fractions to decimals to see which is larger.    paula  3/4 = .75     raffery  5/7 = .71      Paula wins.

Second way: convert the fractions to fractions with a common denominator

paula  3/4 = 21/28 ths   raffey  5/7 = 20/28ths   Paula wins.

With SMALL numbers another way this can be done is to list the first few multiples of each number to see when(if) they match

example    every 15 mins      15   30  45  60  75

                  every 20 mins      20   40  60   80              You can quickly see 60 is the first match, so the answer would be 60 minutes after 12pm ...or  1 pm
