You haven't given units for the speed. I will assume it is 42.5 miles per hour but it should have been in the question.

Now if it is 42.5miles/1 hour. I can flip that uupside down and say it is 1hour/42.5 miles

I can do that because if i go 42.5miles in 1 hour then I can say that in 1 hour I will go 42.5miles.
Now
1 hour/42.5miles * 1530 miles = (1*1530hours) / 42.5 [ the miles cancel out - and yes you can do that too]

= 1530/42.5 hours = 36 hours = exactly 1 and a half days

Leave Monday 8:15am ==> arrive Tues 8:15pm

My method for doing rates is unusual but I don't know why because it is by far the best method that there is. (I wish there was a nodding emicon that I could insert. )

I am assuming that you need to factorise this.

You need to look for 2 numbers that multiply to 32 and add to -12.
It is easiest to think of the multiply part first.
you are multiplying to get a positive number therefore both numbers must be + or both numbers must be -
since they add to a negative number, both numbers must be negative.

now think of the factors of 32
-16 and -2 NO
-8 and -4 Bingo,
-8*-4=32 and -8+-4=-12
So the answer is
x ²-12x+32 = (x-8)(x-4)

Well, sarah, there is an "art" to math. Obviously, some are more adept than others. But that doesn't mean that you can't improve. These things might help you:

1. Practice. No one just falls put of bed and learns to play the piano. It's the same way with math....the more you practice, the better you become.

2. Learn the basics. I know this sounds simple, but when I used to tutor, it was quite surprising to find people who couldn't add, subtract, multiply or divide. (I found that people couldn't reduce fractions because they didn't know the multiplication tables!! Flash cards are a good remedy for that!!)

3. Memorizing "formulas and "problem solving steps" is OK, but you should learn the "why" of them. For instance, a lot of people know that the volume of a cylinder is pi*r^2*h. But, if you ask them WHY that's so, you usually wind up with a blank stare. If you understand the "why," you can usually derive formulas that you may have even forgotten!! .

4. Ask questions in class. This is hard to do, because nobody wants to appear "stupid." It's been my experience that if YOU don't understand something right away, about 90% of the class doesn't usually understand it, either. (They're usually to scared to ask, too!!). Ignore those who might make fun of you for asking a "silly" question - the world is filled with those people, and they're often not as "smart" as you might think. Besides, some concepts ARE difficult to understand right away!!

5. Finally..........I used to have a saying about math.......it's the kind of subject that can frustrate you if you don't "get it" right away," but then, when you finally DO see it, you wonder why you had so much trouble in the first place!! I'm sure you will find this true!!

Well, for starters, if 2 lines are parallel what does that tell you about their slope? (The slope is the gradient)

y=mx+b is the gradient and y intercept form of a line. m is the gradient. b is the y intecept.

So how about you add some input at this point. What can you tell me about this line that you need. ???
