When dealing with sin, cos, and tan, there are results for a 60^o angle. The cos of 60^o is 1/2, the cos of 30^o is sqr root (3)/2. If I have 12(cos 330^o + i * sin 330^o) I need to know why I simplify that to 30^o.

I just played with my calculator and I see exactly what you're talking about.

Basically what you're saying is: instead of (1+1/n)^n, doing (1+1/n)^(n+0.5) gives you more accurate digits.

(1+1/100)^100 = 2.7048...

(1+1/100)^100.5 = 2.7183 ...  (exactly 2x more accurate digits)

(1+1/1000)^1000 = 2.7169239 ...

(1+1/1000)^1000.5 = 2.71828205... (again 2x more accurate digits)

It's pretty interesting, but I don't know why it would give you more accurate digits. Maybe it is a coincidence?

What are you trying to do?

If "simplify" is your answer, then the first step to take would be combine like terms.

7+3x+4 = 3x+11

A quick question, why are we simplifying the angles to 30^o instead of 60^o? 330^o is 60⁰ more than 270^o so wouldn't the angles be simplified to 60^o?

There are multiple ways to do this, but here is one way:

$300 - 15%($300)

15% ($300) = 0.15 * $300 = $45.

$300 - $45 = $255

You also could have done $300 * (100%-15%) = $300 * 85% = $300 * 0.85 = $255

I kind of get it now, it's just I didn't know how CPhill figured out his answers. I'll try and ask him.

Two buses with 45 riders each = 90........so we have

90 +  5c >=  120   subtract   90  from both sides

5c > = 30      divide both sides by 5

c > = 6        [ you will need at least 6 cars, maybe more, if the number of people exceed 120  ]

A group has an equal number of adults and children. 

Let K be the number of children (kids)    Sinve there is the same number of adults then K is the number of adults too

When n oranges are given to the group, each adult gets two oranges while each child gets one orange

and there are still 5 oranges left.

The adults get 2 oranges each that is 2K oranges and the children get 1 orange each, that is K oranges and there is 5 oranges left over.

SO

n = 2K+K+5

Write an algebraic expression for the number of oranges given to the adults.

n=3K+5

n-5=3K

K=(n-5)/3

but the adults get twice this many oranges so the adults get

2(n-5)/3    oranges.

CPhill's answer is the same, he has just not simplified it. and i used a k instead of an x

First, break up the number into it's prime factors and put everything under the radical.

\(\sqrt{48} = \sqrt{2*2*2*2*3}\)

Then find the pairs, pull them out of the radical, and multiply the radical by that number.

We have 2 pairs of "2s" in the prime factorization of 48, so after removing them, we get

\(2*2\sqrt{3}\) which simplifies to \(4\sqrt{3}\)

Or you can try and factor the original number into perfect squares, for example

\(\sqrt{48} = \sqrt{4*4*3}\) and since √4 is equal to 2, you can remove the √4s inside the radical and replace them with "2s" outside the radical. Both ways will ive you the same answer.

The first number must be equal to or greater than 1, but less than 10.

What you're talking about is supposed to be \(8.19 * {10}^{-2}\) in proper scientific notation.

If you want an answer, we need more details.

1.83 tons is a lot heavier than 2.0 Kilograms, but 1.83 ounces is considerably less than 2.0 pounds.

Give us units to match the numbers! If it's the same unit, common sense ought to tell you that 1.83 < 2.0.

That depends, are the units the same.?  

Without the units neither have any weight so  they are equal in weight.
