Huh, that sounded like a lot of work chris.

If the sides of two similar figures have the ratio of  \(1:\frac{10}{3}\)

Then the area of the 2 figures have the ratio of

    \(1^2:\frac{10^2}{3^2}\\ 1:\frac{100}{9}\)

That is of course the small one to the large one, you asked for it the other way around so the sides need to be swapped.

5 !   = 5 * 4 * 3 * 2 * 1  =  20 * 6   = 120

how do you simplify ^3 * square root of 48

I think perhaps that the question is the cubed root of 48 ??

\(\sqrt[3]{48}=\sqrt[3]{8*6}=\sqrt[3]{8}\sqrt[3]{6}=2\sqrt[3]{6}\)

There are concepts that I need to cement into my head here.     

1000 ( 1 + .015)  = 1000 + 15  = $1015

This is in scientific notation (or standard notation if you are from the United Kingdom)

the 5 indicates that the decimal point must be moved 5 places.

The - with the 5 indicates that this is a really little number so the point gets moved in the direction to make the number smaller, that is, to the left.

I really depends on where you saw it.

If you saw it stand alone then Yes it is probably an empty set just like CPhill said.    

But parentheses are used for other things too.

Like in LaTex, the arguments of a function are indicated by putting them in parentheses :)

Since the LCM of 5 and 10=10, therefore the two train will meet after 10 hours of travel.

North-bound train will have travelled: 10 X 10=100 miles or 2/3 of the distance, and,

South-bound train will have travelled: 10 X 5  =50 miles or 1/3 of the distance.

Similar polygons are similar in all respects.....

If we divide each polygon into 10 equal triangles...the base of each triangle will be formed by a side.....and the side [base] of a triangle in the larger polygon will be  3+1/3  = 10/3   that of the base of a triangle in the smaller one.......and the height of each corresponding triangle in both figures will have the same relationship....[10/3].......so the ratio of the area of a triangle in the larger polygon to a corresponding triangle in the smaller polygon will just be the square of the ratio of the sides = [10/3]^2 = 100/9

And......the ratio of the area of one triangle in the larger polygon to the area of a triangle in the smaller polygon will have the same relationship as the area of the larger polygon to the area of smaller polygon  = [10/3]^2  = 100/9

Let the point where the one traveling 10 mph be (0,0).......let the other start at (0,150)

So

!0T + 5T  = 150         where T is the total time traveled.........simplify

15T = 150                divide both sides by 15

T = 10                      They meet after 10 hours.......so  using the faster train's rate......
