The answer above is almost correct (there is one tiny error) but it can be greatly simplified.

$$\frac{17}{120}\times\frac{18}{119}\\\\
=\frac{1}{120}\times\frac{18}{7}\\\\
=\frac{1}{20}\times\frac{3}{7}\\\\
=\frac{3}{140}$$

CPhill's answer is a good one but it is more common to do it the other way around.

consider this

2(3a) this is 2 lots of 3a and the answer is 2*3a=6a

2(3a+4) is 2 lots of (3a+4) which is 2 lots of 3a plus 2 lots of 4 = 6a+8

(2+3)(3a+4) is 5 lots of (3a+4) but this can also be thought of as 2 lots of (3a+4) plus 3 lots of (3a+4)

so

$$(2a-b)(3a-2b)\\
= 2a(3a-2b) -b(3a-2b)\\
=6a^2-4ab -3ab--2b^2\\
=6a^2-4ab -3ab+2b^2\\
=6a^2-7ab+2b^2\\$$

See, our answers are the same. 

Start with the inner most brackets and work your way out.

$$10+4-(3-(1+2-(4-9)))\\
=14-(3-(3-(-5)))\\
=14-(3-(3--5))\\
=14-(3-(8))\\
=14-(3-8)\\
=14--5\\
=14+5\\
=19$$

CPhill is right but normally percent profit is worked out on cost price.

So if cost price is $20  and sale price is $25 then profit is $5

Percent profit is usually considered to be profit/cost price * 100% 

5/20*100% = 25%

Firstly, do you mean

If so the most common way to write it (for question askers) is 4B^3-1b+2b+2b^3+2b

The hat ^ is used for 'to the power of'.  That is a handy thing for you to know.

Now back to the question, as I have interpreted it.

It is very unusual to use a little b and a Capital B in the same question but I am going to assume that they are different pronumerals that you cannot add or subtract together.

You can only add and subtract like terms - these must have the same letters (pronumerals) and the letters must be raised to the same power.

The only terms you can add are -1b+2b+2b which equals 3b

so the answer is $$4B^3+2b^3+3b$$

Draw the graph near the minimum (maximum) of the curve.  If there are no real solutions the curve will be completely above (below) the x-axis.

Re: how do you find percentage profit

Well....that depends on what we're taking a percentage of.  Generally, we're interested in finding either:

1) Percentage of profit with repect to cost (usually called the "mark-up")    .....  OR  ......

2) Percentage of profit with respect to sales (usually called the "margin")

Let me give you a simple example to demonstrate the difference. Suppose we bought something for $8 (our cost) and sold it for $10 (our sales price).  Then, we made a profit of $2.

The percentage of profit with respect to cost = (profit)/((cost) = (2)/(8) = (1)/(4) = 25%

The percentage of profit with respect to sales = (profit)/((sales price) = (2)/(10) = (1)/(5) = 20%

(Of course, most businesses usually prefer the former measure. It makes them seem more "profitable.")

We can evaluate this in several ways. One way is to "disrtibute" (multiply) the first expression over both terms in the second. This gives us

[(2a-b)*(3a)]  + [(2a-b)*(-2b)]    which gives us

[6a² - 3ab] + [ -4ab + 2b²]  =

6a² - 3ab - 4ab + 2b²   and combining "like" terms, we have

6a² - 7ab + 2b²

We also could have distributed the second expression over the first.....the answer would have been the same!!!

Let's take another look at this one.... (If you want to)

Let's assume that we DO use a "weighted average" system to calculate the average

So we have something like this

[63x + 83y + 100z] / [x + y + z] = 70     where   x, y, z   are the "weights"

Multiplying by [x + y + z] on both sides gives us

63x + 83y + 100z = 70 ( x + y + z)   And after a little manipulation, we have

-7(x) + 13(y) + 30(z) = 0     Now, solving "for z," we get

z = (7x - 13y)/30

Note that, if I let x = 2 and y = 1, I get "1"  as a numerator and "z" = (1/30).......but, I need "z" to be an integer. Therefore, if I just mutiply everything in the nunerator by 30, then we get

z = 30 [7(2) - 13(1)]/ 30 = [7(60) -13(30)]/30 = [(420-390)/30] = (30/30) = 1

Then our "solution set" for (x, y, z) = (60, 30, 1)

And this is just a "3 space" vector. And any positive integer multiple of this vector could be could be a "solution" to the weighted values of x, y, and z.

So, the general soltion to this problem - if "70" is indeed the "answer" - is just given by: n(x, y, z) .....  where (x, y, z) = (60, 30, 1)  and n is a positive integer.

Since 86 is 1 unit, do 86 times 2. You should 172. Then, do 322-172 to get 150. SInce 150 equals 2 units, do 150 divided by 2 to get 75.
