I think that Bob dropped everything and sea gulls and bower birds stole all the golf b***s.

You know different species of Bower Birds collect different coloured objects. In Australia we have a Great Bower Bird and the male likes to collect white objects.  His bower is heavily decorated - he especially likes bleached bones.  I am sure he'd like to add a golf ball or 2 as well.  

Here's another way to do this....it's a "trick" I used to use when I tutored...

Take the points and "reverse" them.....we have (2, -1) and (3, 3)

Line them up like this and draw a line under them

(2 , -1)

(3 ,   3)

______      Now just "subtract" the "underneath" things from the things "overhead" - individually - like this

 (2 , -1)

(-3 ,  - 3)

_______

-1  ,  -4

Now.......put the thing in the first column "over" the thing in the second column   (-1) / (-4)  = 1 / 4 and Voila!!.......there's the "slope" 

 

Let's take a look at this.

given (x1,y1), (x2,y2)

CPhil flips the coordinates to create (y1,x1) and (y2,x2) then subtracts to obtain

(y1-y2,x1-x2) and then creates (y1-y2)/(x1-x2)=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) which is the usual slope formula.

It's Bona Fide!

Technically speaking 21! means 1x2x3x4x5x6x7......x21

so the answer is 4/21

= 3\frac{5}{6}+\frac{5}{6}\\\\
= 3\frac{10}{6}\\\\
= 3+1\frac{4}{6}\\\\
= 4\frac{4}{6}\\\\
= 4\frac{2}{3}\\\\$$

$$(-1)^4/3\\\\
=[(-1)^4]/3\\\\
=[1]/3\\\\
=\frac{1}{3}$$

Technically speaking, I belive that is the correct interpretation of the question.

Here's another way to look at it.......just subtract one side from the other.......if you get "0," both things must be equal !!!

Another way to write that question is  (³√-1^4), -1^4=1, ³√1=1

The reason that the calculator puts out errors is it does not simplify the same way.

In short, (-1)^4/3 = 1 , because you are asking for the cube root of -1^4, which is the same as cube root of 1, which is one.

= 3 5/6           It is read as 3 whole and 5/6

= 23/6

take log of both sides :

x log(7/9) = (1-x) log(7)

=> x[ log(7) - log(9)] = log(7) - x log(7)

=> xlog(7) - xlog(9) = log(7) - xlog(7)

=> 2xlog(7) -x log(9) = log(7)

=> 2x (0.845098) - x(0.954243) = 0.845098

=> x(2*0.845098 - 0.954243) = 0.845098

=> x(0.735954) = 0.845098

=> x = 0.845098 /0.735954

=> x = 1.148303

You can check the answer by substituting the value of x.

No, because we would have to use a negative real number as a log base and that creates problems.

Also, note that the normal exponential curve is "unbroken" and non-periodic.

But (-1)² = 1  and (-1)³ = -1 and (-1)⁴ = 1........notice how the graph would "oscillate" back and forth between 1 and -1 as x increases in integer value (like a periodic function) and it would also be "undefined" between integer values (a "broken" graph). (That's why you get an "error" on the calculator when you try to evaluate (-1)^(4/3) - your exponent of 4/3 lies "between" integers.)

Actually . . . I found it online It was a pretty common math problem, and turns out there was a perfect example!

Here's a way to do it, but it's a "two-step" process

Say we have   7/4

1. Hit the enter key and you get  1.75   (remember the "whole part")

2. Subtract  the  "whole part" of the answer from 1.75 and the calculator will return the "mixed part" (fractional part)

I think that you have spelt something wrong. The translation does not make sense.

18% is the same as 18/100 which is also the same as 0.18

so 

18/100*49 ≈  3.67*10^-3 ≈  0.00367

or

0.18*49 equals exactly the same.

If you did mean  Find log₃9

Then you say it "Find  log of 9 base 3"

It might be easier to understand if you change 5< a to a>5

when you swap sides you have to turn the inequality sign around.

Both answers are good but the numbers are the wrong way around and there shouldn't be an x in the subtraction on the 2nd answer.

YOU CANNOT USE THE QUADRATIC FORMULA BECAUSE IT IS NOT A QUADRATIC EQUATION.

Perhaps you actually meant

-z²+2z-7=0  but that has no solutions so maybe you meant something else ?????
