I am sorry Feitan but this is not really correct.

pi is a number.  It is the answer when the circumference of a circle is divided by its diameter. In other words it is the number of times that the diameter will go into the circumference of the circle.

It is an IRRATIONAL NUMBER. This means that it cannot be represented exactly as a fraction. And from that it also follows that it can not be represented exactly by a terminating or a recurring decimal.

These approximations are sometimes used

3.14 or 3.142 or

$${\frac{{\mathtt{22}}}{{\mathtt{7}}}} = {\mathtt{3.142\: \!857\: \!142\: \!857\: \!142\: \!9}}$$

or the approximation from the web2 calc is

$${\mathtt{\pi}} = {\mathtt{3.141\: \!592\: \!653\: \!589\: \!793\: \!2}}$$

The web2 calc is much more accurate than the others but it is not exact.

As I said Pi is an irrational number and cannot be written exactly as a number.

Pi is basically 22/7, which results in a repeating decimal. As a result, we generally shorten it to 3.14.

Actually the member section is not adequate to see the new members - it doesn't even bring up many of the old members!  I think we have more than 10 new members every day, maybe a lot more.  The only ones I catch are the new answerers.  If someone answers a questions and I don't recognise their name then I look at their profile.  If they are new then I welcome them.  It is extremely hit and miss.  When admin gets the member section working properly we need to organise something better.  Maybe an automated welcome or maybe put someone in particular in charge of a welcoming committee.

This calculator goes all the way to infinity. I've seen it many times. A long time ago it displayed $$\\\infty$$

Then it displayed "Infinity". Now, it says "Unendlich," that's German for infinity.

$$\\\infty$$ means. OR maybe the he really likes the German band Schandmaul. “Unendlich” is the name of their eighth album. If the 8 falls over then it is a lemniscate, so either way, it works.

So a^-1/2   means 1/a^1/2 = 1/√a

For instance....9^-1/2 = 1/9^1/2 = 1/√9 = 1/3

I'm not great at probability.....but  I'll see what I can do for you......

First off, the number of total outcomes possible from drawing 4 b***s out of 12 is just C(12,4) = 495......this will be the denominator in our answers......

P(4white or 4blue) = P(4white) + P(4blue) - P(4 white and 4 blue)

The last thing = 0  (We can't draw 4 white ones and 4 blue ones at the same time)

P(4white)  = choose any 4 of the 7 white ones = C(7,4) = 35

P(4blue) = choose any 4 from the 5 blue ones = C(5,4) = 5

So we have   (35 + 5)/495 = 40/495 = 8/99

P(3white).....choose 3 of the 7 white ones and 1 of the 5 blue ones =

C(7,3) * C(5,1) = 175.....so we have

175/495 = 35/99

(175 + 35)/ 495 = 210/495 = 42/99 = 14/33

negative two times seven  means -2 x 7  and over negative two means -2 x 7/-2

so we'll solve it like this ; $$-2 * 7/-2$$

$$=-14/-2$$        ( here -2 x 7 is -14 )

$$=7$$              ( here - signs get cut and 14 and 2 devided gives 7 )

The term is "factorial".....it represents the product of the first "n" positive integers and is written as n!

Thus,

3! = The product of the first three positive integers = 3*2*1 = 6

And 5! = The product of the first five positive integers = 5*4*3*2*1 = 120

This idea is used quite frequently in the areas of probability and statistics to count sets or orderings of things.

3! = 3*2*1
2! = 2*1 = (3*2*1)/3 = 3!/3
1! = (2*1)/2 = 2!/2
Then.....
