Yup, rosala is right, you have to remember your order of operations.

Here's the order of operations:

Parentheses

Exponets

Multiplication 

Division

Addition

Subtraction

This is a saying people like to think of when doing the order of operations - "PEMDAS".

It basically says...

First you do anything in parenthesis.

Then you do anything with exponets.

Next you do either multiplication or division, based on the order it comes in the question. 

Here's an example:

8*8 ÷ 4           ---First you do 8*8 because it comes first

64 ÷ 4             ---Now you divide 64 by 4.

After you do multiplication and division, you do addition and subtraction, based on the order they come in the question, just like multiplication and division.

So let's apply this to your question:

2+5*3-2           ---We have to do multiplication (5*3) before addition and subtraction based on the order of operations

2+15-2

17-2

15

 For example though you might have 1,000,232 as a number and like using it a lot in one calculation, thus if you let it equal a letter such as v, you can now simplify the amount of work you have to do. You might think this is not a big number but the work to write it depnding on how much you have to could attibute it as long, or when you have to do small adjustments it's easier to maybe have v-10 for example. Maybe you are working with manipulating google plex or other large numerical quantities. So by the end of a long process you might have 20 v, wich was only v written 20 times, and you can now add the 1,000,232 (20 times). As well, an example is the use of pi, theta and other symbols that have puposes other than for numerical values. 

we use letters or alphabets like x,y,z in maths to represent an unknown value which we are to find!

Alan, thanks. I got 2.55 m not rounded and the answers given had 2.6 m rounded up. How I got that so you can check where I went wrong was,

1/2 mv₀^2 = -mg sin(theta)*d

Cancle m, transpose to make d the subject.  

Therefore, 1*v₀^2/2*g*sin(theta) =d.

And with values it should come out. 

Two questions come to mind, why is it -mgsin(theta)? 
Also, why did you take the line with calculating the distance with displacement equation? 
Which is the right answer from my answer and yours?

no your equation is wrong!We will solve this by using the DMAS rule which is Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction!So we have solved this according to this rule by following multiplication first , addition second and subtraction third!

6x² - 7x - 3 = (3x + 1)(2x - 3)

why not 7 by the math rules i think the right equation it shoud be (2+5)*(3-2) im just wondering...thx

how do you enter it on the calculator?

they are all multiples of 3 so, 3(6x^2-7x-3).

I'm not doing the whole thing I am too tired but the answer is x=0 or y=0

because if you square both sides you get

(x+y)^2=x^2+y^2

if you do the expansion you hopefully understand how I came to my conclusion. 

why dont u enter this in the on-site calculator and check for your answer!

9 because when you multiply sqrt of 3 by 3 again, you get 3. then you multiply by 3 gain to get 9.

to find the value of n we will solve the equation like this!

$$25 + 2n = 5$$  ( now we'll take 25 to the other side)

$$2n=5-25$$  (now simply just subtract both of them)

$$2n=-20$$ ( now we will take 2 to the other side )

$$n=-20/2$$   ( now deviding thses noth gives us our value of n )

$$n = - 10$$   $$ANSWER$$

So the value of n is -10
