For machne A:  with an input of  x  its output will be 5x - 4

For machine B: with an input of  x  its output will be 3x + 8

If machine A's output is three times machine B's output:  5x - 4  =  3(3x + 8)

                                                                                           5x - 4  =  9x + 24

               subtract 5x from both sides:                                      -4  =  4x + 24

               subtract 24 from both sides:                                    -28  =  4x

               divide both sides by 4:                                               -7  =  x

Checking:  machine A:  5x - 4  =  5(-7) - 4  =  -35 - 4  =  -39

                  machine B:  3x + 8  =  3(-7) + 8  =  -21 + 8  =  -13

And:  -39 is three times -13.

 B = 3x+8     we want 3 times this    3 (3x+8) = 9x + 24     equal to A  = 5x-4

9x+24 = 5x -4

4x = -28

x = -7 

  Diameter is  2 times the radius         so radius  is   1/2  x d    =   1/2  x   4.75   inches

The mean (which is the average of all 4 scores) will likely DECREASE since A put in a lower score (if the other scores do not change).

The median (which is the middle  of the list scores..... or the average of the two middle scores if their is an even number  of entries in the list )   won't change as A is already an outlier and does not change.

'Convert' the equations to y = mx + b   form    m = slope     if the slopes are the same then the lines are parallel

first one   y = 5x + 1     is already in y = mx+ b form   slope = 5

   can you do L2 ?  to see if slope = 5   ....     HINT: divide both sides of the equation by 2

'exact form'  means leave  'pi' in the naswer .....do not multiply it out (I think)      and if it results in a repeating decimal....leave the fraction intact in the answer....   cool?

I THINK if 125 want to take ski lessons then   500 - 125 = 375 do NOT wnat to take skiing lessons      375/500 = 3/4  =  0.75
