From the picture below yo can see that the shaded area will be 12 semicircles of diameter 2    (radius 1)

    12 semi circles = 6 circles of radius 1

        6   * pi (r^2)   = 6 pi

Note that     x^2  + 6x  -27   = ( x - 3) ( x + 9)

So  the  first term  actually  reduces to     x + 9

This wil "cancel"  with the denominator of the  other  term....so.....you are left with

3x
