In the first step, when the student distributed the -2 with the 7 - y, multiplying -2 times -y should be + 2y.

The problem is to find how many students have either blond hair or glasses and then divide that by the total number of students; that will find the probability.

Since 7 have blonde hair and 9 have glasses, that would be a total of 16 persons if there were no overlap; that is, no blonde wears glasses and nobody who wears glasses is a blonde.

But there are 4 persons who have both blond hair and wears glasses. That means, of the 7 who are blondes, 3 of them do not wear glasses. And, of the 9 who wear glasses, 5 of them are not blondes.

So, the probability  that a student has either blonde hair or glasses = P(A ∪ B),  is gven by

P(A ∪ B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A ∩ B) = 7/20 + 9/20 - 4/20 = 12/20

This is a non-technical description:

The limit process gives the value for y in an equation as x gets closer and closer to some value.

It answers the question "What should the value of y be?".

Sometimes the equation actually has that value, sometimes it doesn't because the equation is not defined at that point (remember that you can't divide by zero).

For instance, if the equation is y = x + 3 and you want to find the value when x = 3, just put 3 in for x in the equation and you get the answer: 6. If you were to put in numbers close to x, such as 2, then 2.5, then 2.9, then 2.99 (etc), your answers would get closer and closer to 6 (they would be 5, 5.5, 5,9, 5.99). So the limiting process gets you closer and closer to 6; but you know it should, so that's not much of a surprise.

What about the equation y = (x² - 9) /(x - 3). Here, if you put in 3, you don't get an answer; it's undefined because you can't divide by zero. Now , you put in 2, 2.5, 2.9, 2.99, you'll get closer and closer to the limit (which is the value that it would have if there wouldn't be division by zero. Also if you approach 3 from the other side by putting in 3.5, 3.25, 3.1, 3.01, you'll again get closer and closer to the limit.

Try putting in those numbers and see if you can find the limit. The line is actually a line with one point removed, the point where x = 3.

For improper fractions you would divide the top by the bottom and get a decimal then turn it into a improper fraction. To turn a mixed number to an improper fraction you would mutiply the whole number by the neumerater then add the denominator to the product.😃

For scientific notation, you want the decimal point after the first digit. In this case you'll have to move the decimal point 10 places, so   3.6453 x 10^10.

Each time you move the decimal point one place you are either multiplying or dividing by 10, depending upon the direction that you're moving the decimal point.

We could set tis up as a proportion thusly.....(using 60 minutes = 1 hour)

75people / 25 minutes = x people / 60 minutes      .....  cross-multiply.......

60*75 / 25 =  180 people per hour

And, in three hours, it can accomodate three times as many......so.... 3 x 180   = 540 people

Doubling every year is 2 x 2 x 2 ... (depending upon the numberof years)  = 2^y

s  =  20000·2^y

Check this out:  when y = 1, s = 20000·2^1  =  40000   That's doubled, so that's right.

                                 y = 2, s = 20000·2^2  =  80000   That's doubled again, so that's right.
