SOH, CAH, and TOA is a easy way to remember how to solve for sine, cos, and tan.

SOH = Sine.: Opposite/Hypotenuse

CAH = Cos: Adjacent/Hypotenuse

TOA = Tan: Opposite/Adjacent

I am guessing you are refering to the trigonometric Soh Cah Toa.

This a way people use to remember sine cosine and tangent.

Soh-Sine=$${\frac{{\mathtt{opposite}}}{{\mathtt{hypotenuse}}}}$$

Cah-Cosine=$${\frac{{\mathtt{adjacent}}}{{\mathtt{hypotenuse}}}}$$

Toa-Tangent=$${\frac{{\mathtt{opposite}}}{{\mathtt{adjacent}}}}$$

I don't see any triangle, but if AB is a "leg,"  we have

AB = √(8² - 3²)

If AB is the hypoteneuse, we have

√(8² + 3²)

Mutiplying a polynomial by a constant does nothing to change its degree.  And adding two polynomials of the same degree together  - as long as the "lead" terms don't "cancel" each other - will result in a polynomial of that degree. So...the highest possible degree is four.

Here's another way to do this with only one variable.

Call the amount of the 63% solution = "x"...then the amount of the 43% solution is just "40-x"..we have

.63x + .43(40-x)  = .53(40)     multiply through by 100

63x + 43(40-x) = 53(40)

63x + 1720 - 43x = 2120      simplify

20x  = 400       divide through by 20

x= 20 L
