What you want to do is to make the fractions the same:
2 9ths = 12 54ths
1 6th = 9 54ths
So then you have 8 & 12 54ths - 1 & 9 54ths = (8-1 ) 7 + (12-9) 3 54ths.
now 3 54ths is the same as 1 18ths.
ANSWER: 7 & 3 18ths

question is : Simplify 2i3 + i2 - i
I think you mean i3 and i2 to be the complex number i raised to powers.
I'll use * to mean multiply. i squared is -1.
2*i*i*i + i*i - i = 2*(-1)*i + -1 - i = -2i -1 -i = -1-3i
If you just meant multiply, not exponent, then
2i3 + i2 -i = 6i + 2i -i = 7i

Your last step should read 0≤-2x.
That means -2x is 0 or greater.
That means 2x is 0 or less than zero.
That means x is 0 or less than zero.
In symbols, x≤0.
On the number line that is all points to the left of zero, and zero also.

17900 = ab^13 -----(1)
500 = ab^3 ---------(2)
(1)/(2)
179/5 = b^10
b = (35.8)^0.1
a*35.8^(0.1*3) = 500
a = 500/35.8^0.3
So a = approximately 170.925
b = approximately 1.430

Your missing some info here before we can help, is the longer piece 3 feet
larger
than twice the
shorter
piece or 3 feet smaller than twice the shorter piece?
If the question is greater than, than y = length of longer piece, and x = length of the shorter piece.
we know that the longer length is 3 feet longer than twice the shorter length, so we can make the equation: Longer length y = 3 + 2x This is saying take twice the shorter and add 3.
We also know that both lengths have to add up to 12. So x+y=12. Since you know that y= 3 + 2x, you can plug that into the other equation for y.
so instead of x+y=12, you get x + (3 + 2X) = 12. Since its all addition you can remove the ( ). and have x+3+2x = 12. Combine the x+ 2x = 3x, so the equation is now 3 + 3X = 12. Now solve for x.
Subtract 3 from both sides, to get 3x=12-3, or 3x=9. Now divide by 3 to get x=3. So we know the shorter is now 3 feet. Now plug that into the other equation x+y=12, so 3+y=12, and you can see that y=9.

What is the number of nautical miles between place A (15°N, 90°W) and place B (40°S, 90°E)?
The answer should consist relative to [ 9600 n mi]
I was thinking......
These 2 places are on a great circle of the earth. (90degreesW and 90degreesE are 180degrees apart.)
This means that the shortest distance between them is via the north or south pole.
40degrees South is further from the equator than 15degrees north so i am going to go via the south pole.
The south pole is 90degrees south
40degrees to 90degrees is 50degrees so B is 50degrees worth of distance from the south p ole
Going up the other side now.
The south pole to the equator is 90degrees.
The equator to A is 15degrees
50+90+15 = 155 degrees. (This is less than half of 360 degrees so it must be the shortest way)
Now 1 degree at the centre of the earth is 60nm at the equator (which is another great circle)
so
155 degrees * 60 = 9300nm

I haven't worked it out yet but this site may help you.
It works it out in km which seems a bit odd but you can do the conversion.
1 nautical mile (nm) = 1.85200 kilometer (km).
Maybe you already know that 1 degree of arc from the centre of the Earth is equal to 1 nm at the equator.
There might be a much better way of working it out. I really don't know.
You can ignore this stuff, I have answered again below.

if P=(2^a)(b), f(P)=2^-a,
then find f(n^3-2n^2+n) for n=even and positive integer.
This is an odd question but here goes.
P=2
a
b ==> 2
a
= P/b ==> 2
-a
= b/P (P<>0 and b<>0)
So
f(P) = 2
-a
= b/P
f(n
3
-2n
2
+n)
= b/ ( n
3
-2n
2
+n )
= b / [n(n-1)
2
] where n<> 0 or 1
This is fine since n = an even and positive integer.
I think it is finished now.

Do you mean 8=t3+6 ?
As in 8=3t+6 ?
If so, to solve for t:
8=3t+6
8-6=3t
2=3t
2/3=t

First: Subtract the second equation from the first to get rid of the p in order to solve for m.
7m-p=11
-(5m-p=7)
7m-p=11
-5m+p=-7 (distributed the negative)
-------------
2m=4 (divide by 2 to get m)
m=2
Then to get p, plug m=2 back into one of the original equations and solve for p.
(I solve for both just to show you either one works)
5m-p=7 7m-p=11
5(2)-p=7 7(2)-p=11
10-p=7 14-p=11
-p=7-10 -p=11-14
-p=-3 -p=-3
p=3 p=3
Therefore, m=2 and p=3.
