wouldnt you add 2 and get 20 and then divide by 4. because it is a negative 2 already

Subtract 3 from both sides                                 Add 2 to both sides

6b < 12                                                            4b >  20

Divide both sides by 6                                       Divide both sides by 4

b < 2                                                               b > 5 

So, since "or"  means "union"   .....we have

(- ∞, 2) U  (5, ∞ )

I assume you have this :

12 < 2x + 8 ≤ 4       we need to get just "x" in the middle.......first, subtract 8 from everything....this gives....

4 < 2x ≤ -4       now......divide everything by 2

2 < x  ≤ -2     we can leave this in this form ..... or this form  (−∞, -2] U (2, ∞)

Subtract 8 from all 3

Then

Divide all three by 2.

Or 9/20 in fraction form.

I don't want to disagree with Melody here, but the graph in the first answer is something like x = y^2 - 5....and this can definitely be differentiated as   1 = 2yy' →  y' = 1/2y ....the derivative doesn't exist for y = 0.....it is positive for y > 0  and negative for y < 0
