You should use a calculator to answer questions like these.

I keep sorting them into two groups until there is only one in each group.

Like for instance

5, -4,  0.6,  0.1,  11/12

First negs are smaller than pos so -4 is in one pile and the rest in another

-4,              5,  0.6,  0.1,  11/12

 Now I can see that 5 is the biggest it is the only one greater than 1

-4,              0.6,  0.1,  11/12                  5

Now I would split them into more than 1/2 and less than 1/2.   0.1 is the only one less than 1/2

-4,              0.6,  0.1,  11/12                  5

-4,   0.1,                 0.6,  11/12                         5

Now 11/12 is almost 1 and 0.6 is only a bit more than 1/2   so the answer is 

-4,      0.1,       0.6,     11/12       5

If there are any that are really close together you can use a calc to change them to decimals and you should know how to place decimals in order!

There is no equal sign here, this is NOT an equation.  So you have answered a different question entirely!

The question is, how do you factor    \(3y^2+31y+36\).

What you need to look for is two numbers that multiply to 3*36  and add to 31

Since both these numbersare positive, both the numbers that you are looking for will also be positive.

Factors of 3*36 

=3*3*12

=3*3*3*4

=3*3*3*2*2

=  27 * 4

and 27+4=31 so these are the numbers that I want.

So now I have to repleace  31y   with    27y+4      like this

OK. Please tell me who is the referee or the authority that is telling you it's wrong. Is it your teacher? Is it the answer in a Math book? I'm very curious to know!!!!. You do understand what these two expressions stand for, right?. The calculation is so primitive that a 10-year old gifted child could easily do it. I'm totally baffled.

FIrst turn all the fractions into 8ths   (this is assuming she gave 1/2 of A pizza to Chris)

1/2 =4 / 8  to Chris

3/8            to John

1/4 = 2 /8  to Sally

2 pizzas =  16/8 pizzas

SO the question says she gave away  4/8  + 3/8  +  2/8 = 9/8ths of the pizza

16/8 - 9/8 = 7/8 of a pizza left (seven slices)

IF she gave 1/2 of THE (two) pizzas to Chris she is left with one pizza (8 slices)

then she gives 3/8 to John      she now has  5/8 pizza left (5 slices)

then she gives 2/8ths to Sally   so she is left with 3/8th pizza (3 slices)

The wording of the pizza she gave to Chris is a little unclear.

Your percentages don't add up right: 1/2 + 3/8 +1/4=1 1/8 is wrong. They must be equal to or less than 1.
