Put each term in a^2+7 a+12-16/a^2 over the common denominator a^2: a^2+7 a+12-16/a^2  =  a^4/a^2+(7 a^3)/a^2+(12 a^2)/a^2-16/a^2:
a^4/a^2+(7 a^3)/a^2+(12 a^2)/a^2-16/a^2

a^4/a^2+(7 a^3)/a^2+(12 a^2)/a^2-16/a^2 = (a^4+7 a^3+12 a^2-16)/a^2:

(40 / 45 )  * ( y^12  / y^4)  =

This is undefined when  x^2 - 3x -18 = 0

So factoring, we have

( x - 6) ( x + 3) = 0       and setting both factors to  0,   x = 6  and x = -3

And these are the two values that make the rational function undefined

4 / [ 9v + 4]

When 9v + 4 = 0    this is undefined

So

9v + 4  = 0      subtract 4 from both sides

9v = -4           divide both sides by 9

v = - 4/9        and this is the value of v that makes the rational function undefined

-20 / ( 9x)

This is undefined when x = 0   because 9(0)  = 0   and we can't divide by 0......!!!

Oh thank you! I think why I put that is because for some reason, sometimes the arrow shows up and sometimes it doesn't? I'm not sure if that's just me, but I've noticed that, because I just checked for the arrows just now, and a few were there for some of my answers but a few weren't. Do you know why?

The point you make in your first post      #5   is extremely important.

We need to be able to find our own posts and other people's post.  It is extremely important for the effective runnig of the forum.     Hopefully we will get this function back again soon. 

Except for the access problems that some people are having it is the BIGGEST concern to us.

Solve for x:
1/12+1/x = 0.145773

0.145773 = 50/343:
1/12+1/x = 50/343

Bring 1/12+1/x together using the common denominator 12 x:
(x+12)/(12 x) = 50/343

Cross multiply:
343 (x+12) = 600 x

Expand out terms of the left hand side:
343 x+4116 = 600 x

Subtract 600 x+4116 from both sides:
-257 x = -4116

Divide both sides by -257:

x^2 - 6x +  9  +    y^2 + 8y +  16  =      144 +  9    +  16                      factor

(x - 3)^2    + (y + 4)^2   = 169

The circle's center is ( 3, -4)  .... and the radius  = sqrt(169)  = 13

   How do I simplify the circle equation x^2+y^2-6x+8y=144

(x-3)^2+(y+4)^2-169 = 0

The sum of two intergers is -41. The greater number minus the lesser number is 13. Which is the greater of the two numbers?

let the numbers be x and y,  the big one is x

x+y=-41     (1)

x-y = 13     (2)

find  x

add the 2 equations

x+y     +x-y  =  -41+13

the ys cancel out

2x= -28

x = -14

Check

find y from equ (1)      

-14+y=-41

so y= -41+14 = -27

sub into equation (2)     -14 - - 27 = -14 + 27 = 13    excellent

The biggest number is   -14

Oh and another thing was if we could be able to edit our answers? I tend to sometimes do something wrong, a simple thing like forgetting a number on accident, for example I mean to type -17 but instead type -7. Or, I just forget how to do a simple equation and do it wrong, but I want to edit it to fix it so the person doesn't get confused. I think being able to edit our answers would be nice because I personally don't like putting another answer just to fix a small thing :P

I'm not sure if this was ever a thing, but I'm pretty sure on the old forum you could click on a user and then you could click on, for example, their answers, and see all the answers they have ever posted. I think I remember once using it to copy and paste an answer I had put a while ago to a question that asked the same thing, something about "how to do fractions" and it was very helpful. Either that, or I had bookmarked the URL :) Anyway, I think it would be helpful and fun to look back at stuff. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to do this though.

2^n-1    gives the distance  on the nth jump.....and we want to know  this :

2^n-1 >  1000

And.....

2¹⁰ = 1024.......so.....

2^11-1   = 2¹⁰  >  1000

And n = 11

Just multiply 5.24 x 1.8.....your answer will be in feet
