This business of the measure of an angle seems to be something that's crept in (from the USA ?) only recently, the last few years ?

The measure of an arc seems to be even more recent, I certainly don't recall coming across it until a few months ago, I think that it's the angle subtended at the circles centre by the arc.

Maybe one of the sites american contributers can enlighten us ?

No the formula for compound interest is 

\(FV=PV(1+r)^n\)

where

FV=future value

PV = present value (at the start)

r is the rate per compouning period expressed as a decimal

n is the number of compouning perods.

so 

If you inbest $250 for 3 years at 6% per annum compounded monthly then

n = 3*12 = 36   (months)

r=  0.06/12 = 0.005   ( this is the rate per month)

so

FV(in three years) = \(250(1+0.005)^{36} = 250*1.005^{36} \)

250*1.005^36 = $299.1701

In question 2, you can't say explicitly what the values of a,b,c and d are.

You can say that a takes one of the values, -2,1,3 or 4, then,  having chosen(?) a value for a, b can take any of the three remaining values, and then c either of the two remaining values leaving d to be the last one.

There is no D on the pic. 

Is D and O the same perhaps?

Also what does "measure arc LB" mean ? is it an angle or an arc length?

Okay so for these two questions you need to know the formula of the circumference and area of circle before attempting the question.

Circumference of Circle = 2*pi*r (where 'r' is the radius of the circle)

Area of Circle = pi*r^2 (pr*r*r, where 'r' again is the radius of the circle).

So with regards to your question now:

Circumference = 2*pi*4 = 8*pi = 25.1327 = 25.1m (rounded to the nearest tenth) (Don't forget the unit of measure 'meters' in this case)

Area = pi*(4)^2 = 16*pi = 50.2655 = 50.3 m^2 (rounded to the nearest tenth)

Let's go step by step:

1) What I would normally do is separating the negative and positive numbers, for convenience:

     3 + 6 + 1 + 1 + (-5) + (-4) + (-1) + (-1)

2) Then, just get the sum of each group:

     11 + (-11)

3) Now add them up and you get the answer:

     0
