10 inches is that the legth of the middle of the slopy triangle sides?   (Which is the height of the triangles)

if it is then you use 

half* base*height   to get the area of each triangle, and there are 4 of them

and also there is the base so you have to find the area of the square.

Then you add them all together :)

2x + 3(x-10) = 45
 

2x + 3x - 30 = 45

5x = 75

x = 15 (D)

I think jj would know what a gradient is, otherwise this question would be way over his head (and you would not try to teach Calculus to a 5 year old would you?)

We have a cyclic quadrilateral

So remember that

R + P  = 180

12x - 27 + 4x - 1 = 180      simplify

And note that R   intercepts   arc QPS

So this arc measures 2 * angle R   =   2 * 129   =    258°

First one....a little tricky

Note that both inscribed angles LMP and LNP   intercept the SAME arc LP  !!!

Therefore....their measues must be equal

So...this implies that

5x - 19 = 2x + 11    solve this RP

Then.....remember that arc LP     =  2  times ( measure of angle LNP)  = 2(2x + 11)

First group like terms 

4x - x + 16 = 22 + 6

3x + 16 = 22 + 6

Then add 22 + 6

3x + 16 = 28

Subtract 16 on both sides 

3x + 16 - 16 = 28 - 16

Divide both sides by 3 

3x/3 = 12/3

x = 4

The answer is B:  x = 4

JJ probably doesn't know what a gradient is...

We read a function from left to right

Note that the function increases from (-inf, 0)   as we go from left to right

Then from  (0, 1)  it   does what ???

Then from (1, 2) it increases again

Then from (2, inf) it does what???

You should get two answers....see if you can get them based on the info given....

If not....let us know....

It is decreasing when the gradient of the tangent to the curve is negative.

You can work out where this is true.

If you want we can chack the answer that you get.

Maybe if you had explained what constant meant, and not given the answer at all, that would have been a much better answer.

mSTU = 13x - 6

So....  2*STU = arc SU...so we have

2(13x - 6) = (21x + 8)   simplify

26x   - 12  =  21x + 8

5x = 20

x = 4

So  arc SU =   21(4) + 8 =  92

So

arc SU + arc UT + arc ST = 360

92 + 143 +  arc ST = 360

235 + arc ST = 360

arc ST  = 360 - 235  =  125°

(-6,0)

I could be wrong but I believe it is (6,8) and (-4,0) because they are above the x-axis. Could also be (0,6) but don't quote me on that
