Melody, it matters to me because I'm learning from this site.  You are so bright, I am astonished by how smart you are.  The other moderators, as well.  The tone of your remarks to me in this thread seems more forceful than warranted.  I haven't been criticizing you, nor challenging you; I just thought I could help, in my small way, albeit very small.  I get the impression that my ideas are unwelcome.

For starters you do what you just did, say thank you and whenever possible add something to it. 

That is communication 

Answerers really like it when their answers are questioned. 

Most of the time we feel like we are teaching brick walls. Polite interaction is always appreciated.

Also if you hover the curser over the heart in the top right of a post you can see a + and a - 

By pressing the appropriate one you can increase or decread their score by one.

Remeber that people are trying to help, even if the answer is nonsense it still would rarely deserve a down vote.

I hope you learn a lot from the wonderful answerers who haunt this forum and that you enjoy the experience as well. :)

You have only ever said thank you once for an answer.

You do not give point credit to your answerers.

You have never commented in any other way, other than that one thank you.

   If you want answers to explain in more detail then you need to interact with them.

Yes 12/40  is 30%  so this does seems a reasonable estimate based on the very limited fact that you have been given.

Do your own homework.

-3736/6 = -622.6666666666666667 = -622+ - 4/6

n=-4mod6 = (-4+6) mod 6 =    2 mod 6

How many different times is the y value  equal to -1.

EP calculated the first one on the basis of "simple interest". In other words, "not compounded"

If you compound it, then you would have:

$400 x 1.08^4 = $544.20

$544.20 - $400 =$144.20 - interest earned on the investment.
