Dbg you hae found the mean.

Median = middle

82 , 83 , 85 , 85

The median is in between 85 and 83

If we have two numbers in median we add them together then divide by two too find the centre.

$${\mathtt{83}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{85}} = {\mathtt{168}}$$

$${\frac{{\mathtt{168}}}{{\mathtt{2}}}} = {\mathtt{84}}$$

84 is your median.

ok thanks Chris :)

$${\mathtt{82}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{83}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{85}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{85}} = {\mathtt{335}}$$

$${\frac{{\mathtt{335}}}{{\mathtt{4}}}} = {\mathtt{83.75}}$$

Mmmmmm.......OK

Here's my understanding of it, Melody......

11 / 0     is "undefined" because we can't multiply anything by 0 in the denominator to return the "11"  in the numerator

But.....consider......

0 / 0

We could multiply the denominator by anything to return the 0 in the numerator....thus....this is "indeterminate"....we can't determine  exactly what this "thing"  is......

It might be "pi"...it might be "10"....it might be "3.45612".......etc.

What is the difference between undefined and indeterminate Chris ?

Are they interchangable terms?

Diagonal of a rectangle of lenght l and width w :

$${\sqrt{{{\mathtt{l}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{{\mathtt{w}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}}}$$

Note: For a square, l=w so:

$${\sqrt{{{\mathtt{c}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{{\mathtt{c}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}}} = {\sqrt{{\mathtt{2}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{{\mathtt{c}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}}} = {\sqrt{{{\mathtt{c}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}}}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\sqrt{{\mathtt{2}}}} = {\mathtt{c}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\sqrt{{\mathtt{2}}}}$$

divide both sides by 3.8

probably using Pythagoras's theorem.

$${\left({\left({\mathtt{1.07}}\right)}^{{\mathtt{2}}}\right)}^{{\mathtt{t}}}$$ or $${\left({\left({\mathtt{1.07}}\right)}^{{\mathtt{t}}}\right)}^{{\mathtt{2}}}$$

But that number n must be strictly greater than 0, because you can't have 0 to a power less than (or equal to) 0.

Everything in "real life" is 10 times as much as shown on the blueprint.....so.....

10 x 8in  =   80 in  =   6ft  8 in

I am sorry, I misread the question.  I thought it said the breadth was 2cm find the length.

Anon you are correct the side length is   $$\sqrt2$$  cm

This number might look weird but it is NOT imaginary.

It is an IRRATIONAL NUMBER that means it cannot be written exactly as a decimal or as a fraction.

So if you want to write it with digitr it will always be an approximation.

$${\sqrt{{\mathtt{2}}}} = {\mathtt{1.414\: \!213\: \!562\: \!373\: \!095}}$$ cm        This is an approximation of the side length :)

It is the imaginary number which is the square root of 2

A square can't have a area of 2 square cm BLOB

To see why Melody's answer is true......consider  the following where  n is non-zero

0ⁿ /  0^{n   =}

0^{n-n  =}

0⁰

But....what's the problem????  .....Note that......in the fraction above, the denominator 0ⁿ  = 0 .....and we can't divide by 0.......

[It's actually more appropriate to term this situation,  "indeterminate" ]

It is undefined

The square root of a positive number n is a number a, which, when squared (multiplied by itself) is equal to that number :

$${{\mathtt{a}}}^{{\mathtt{2}}} = {\mathtt{n}}$$

Agreed, Melody....these questions are inane.....

The "hypotenuse" is the length of the side opposite the right angle in a right triangle -  it is not an angle.......it is found, thusly :

√[ L₁² + L₂² ] = hypotenuse.....where L₁ and L₂ are legs of the right triangle

I think you are giving us little bits of questions and they are not making much sense :/

Mmm How do you find the angle of a side.

That does sound rather difficult.

Perhaps you could use trigonometry but you would be finding the size of an angle, not the angle of a side.  LOL

I believe "standard form"  is this : Ax + By = C  ...   so we have.....

y - 8 = 4/3*(x - 8)     add 8 to both sides

y = (4/3)(x - 8) + 8     multiply both sides by 3

3y = 4(x - 8) + 24

3y = 4x - 32 + 24

3y = 4x - 8

8 = 4x - 3y

4x - 3y  = 8
