This problem can be solved by division because division means distributing things evenly into some pieces.
Total is 1/4 of a mile and there are 4 people.
Therefore each person needs to run for : \(\dfrac{1}{4}\text{miles}\div 4 = \dfrac{1}{4}\text{miles}\times \dfrac{1}{4} = \dfrac{1}{16}\text{miles}\)

so sin = sqrt (1-cos^2)
y = t cos t so y/t =cos t

x/t = sin t y = t (sqrt(1-sin^2 t) = t sqrt(1-x^2/t^2) A shot in the dark !!!

You will have to know the price of gas in 1970 (or the size of the tank) then you will have to take in to account inflation from 1970 to 2000 AND you will have to know the price of gas in yr 2000. Go get 'em!
