Since the end triangles have side lengths of 6, 8, and 10 they are a pythagorean triple which implies that they are right triangles.  As such each has an area of 6(8)/2=24 m^2

The base is a rectangle with lengths 8 and 17 so its area is 8(17)=136 m^2

The "back" side has lengths of 6 and 17 so its area is 6(17)=102 m^2

And the "top" face has lengths of 10 and 17 so its area is 10(17)=170 m^2

Add them all together and we get 2(24)+136+102+170=456 m^2

We have a outer circle with a radius of 7.5m and an inner circle with a radius of  (7.5 -1.25) = (6.25)m

So the arc length of the outer circle = pi*(7.5)m   and the arc length of the inner circle is pi*(6.25)m

And the length of the 11 segments = 11*(1.25)m

So putting all these together, we have:

[pi(7.5 + 6.25) + 11*1.25] m =  about 56.95m = 57m  (rounded)

you would need to factor out something from within the radical. 

For example take sqrt(50)=sqrt(25)sqrt(2)   notice that 25(2)=50 so we are just factoring and giving each fraction its own radical.  if we simplify the sware root of 25 then we get

5sqrt(2)  whcih is not a simplified radical. 

5(8)+5=45

so the improper form (which is generally preferred) is 45/8

Do you mean that the radius of the big one is 7.5m across and the radius of the little one is 5m accross

I thought this one was interesting.

There was another answer here before and it was correct.  What happened to it?  This forum is full of ghosts!

This question is making me think.

Consider y=x²  (I am only going to look at it for x>=0)

The inverse function is x=y² which simpifies to y=sqrt(x)     

Now thie inverse function is the reflection of the function in the line y=x

NOW Both the original fuction y=x² and its inverse y=sqrt(x) have been dropped by 2 units.

So it stands to reason that the line of reflection has also been dropped by 2 units.  

So the line of reflection has become y=x-2

SO If the graph y=x²-2 is reflected about the line y=x-2 it is transformed into y=sqrt(x)-2     where x>=0

There you go and the graph backs this logic up.
