Using the first equation, we have 

y = 5 - 5x        And substituting this into the second equation, we have

4x - 7(5 - 5x) = 43

4x - 35 + 35x = 43     simplifying, we have

39x - 35 = 43            add 35 to both sides

39x = 78                   divide by 39 on both sides

x = 2    

And, using y = 5 - 5x, we have    

y = 5 - 5(2)  

y = 5 - 10

y = -5

You should verify that these answers are correct......!!!

I think the questioner wants to know this:

The sum of the "x" components of a 270°  vector with a length of 4 and a 60° vector with a length of 4.

So, for the 270° vector we have, < 0. 4 >  and for the 60° vector we have < 2 ,  2√3 > .

So, as Melody has said, the sum of the "x" components is just  2.

Christina please can you be a little more clear for what you are asking because 55 + 39 = 94  and uve answered this so wats that ? for!

So.....2*arctan(12/5) = 2* 67.38013505196°   = 134.76027010392°

And...... sin( 134.76027010392°) = 0.710059171598

Y years ago Ann was half 24yrs = 12years SO

Ann-Y=12 so Ann=12+Y  (1)

24-Y=Ann's age now  (2)      (Ann is the same age now as Mary was Y years ago)

24-Y=12+Y       (2)=(1)

12=2Y

Y=6

Ann=12+6=18 years.

Alan's way may be more elegant but this is just how I got my head around it.  Both are correct.

Do you mean the x-component?  If so, the x-component of a vector pointing south is zero, and the x-component of a vector of length 4m pointing in the direction 60° north of east is 4cos(60°)m or 2m (since cos(60°) is 1/2).

I think the question is:

Mary = 24

x years ago:   Mary - x = Ann  so 24 - x = Ann

           Also:   Mary = 2(Ann - x)

              So:   24 = 2(24 - x - x)

                  :   24 = 48 - 4x

                  :   x = 6

 Ann = 24 - x = 24 - 6, so Ann = 18

As we are to find out 30% of 250 then well do it like this

30/100  x  250      (of means multiplication so 30% of 250)

=15  x 5   (we have got this after we had cut the three numbers 30,100 and 250 this no more can be cut so we multiply it directly)

=75    ANSWER

So 75 is 30% of 250  !
