Not exactly sure what you are asking, but I will go with this:

8x=140   divide both sides of the equation by 8

x = 17.5 degrees

Maybe   8x + 140 = 180   ??    subtract 140 from both sides

              8x = 40                       divide both sodes by 8

                 x = 5
