  if mother is 4 baby heights     then ration of mother to baby is   4 baby heights to  1 baby height     or    4 to 1

I get x = 8 also

Multiply the left side by     15 /( z^4 sqrt (14z))  and then reduce everything   to find   'x'  = 8

I don't think they are points....they are lines between the points....

Y = mx + b    form to start....then conver to   ax + by form requested

y = 5/3 x + b    sub in the given point to calculate 'b'

-3 = 5/3 (4) + b

b = - 29/3

y = 5/3 x  - 29 /3         now multiply the entire equation by  '3'  and re-arrange to the requested form   ....

I agree with Melody. Sometimes, people may not know how to answer the problem, and then they skip it and move on to a different problem. (like me, sorry for being picky...)

Concerning the math question that you had...I'm confused...how do you multiply\add points? Anybody able to explain? (maybe even you, TigerNathan, as you solved the problem already) It would be good for my learning experiance.

If you were to draw UV and TW, you would create triangle(SUV) and triangle(SWT).

By AA, triangle(SUV) is similar to triangle(SWT).

Therefore:  SU / SV  =  SW / ST     --->     SU · ST  =  SW · SV

Let  SV = x,  then  SW = x + 3.

SU · ST  =  SW · SV     --->     ( 18 )( 3 )  =  ( x + 3 )( x )

                                      --->               54  =  x² + 3x

                                      --->                 0  =  x² + 3x - 54

                                      --->                 0  =  (x + 9)(x - 6)

--->   x  =  6

From here, you can find the value of SW ...

It might be graphed on the y axis but it is not the y axis.

It is the units I am interested in.

mpm, miles per minute, is unusual units.  The time is given in seconds, which is 1/60 of a time unit.

I cannot see the question but I expect that is where the confusion lies.

but in the question they said "  predict how the residents of NJ will react" Would that not imply that the residents of NJ need to voice their opinions and not the country as a whole?

@CalTheGreat, it says it wants to predict it in New Jersey, not the United States.
