I did this on an online calculator and received a different answer

It would be 2+2= 4

think about this question

$$25-4^2$$         it is  25-16 = 9     see the minus was not squared only the 4 was squared.

$$-8^2$$   really means    $$-1*8^2$$     and powers are done before multiply so it is  $$-1*64 = -64$$

I had a copy error in mine but yours is not correct either unless some of those letters are meant to be under the square root signs

Sets off                                   12.00                                         12.10     (say)

Arrives at friend's place             12.30                                         12.40

( a 30min walk)                               Apparent journey time δt = 40 mins 

Leaves friend's place                 12.40                                          12.50

                                                                      δT = 10 mins

Arrives home                            13.10                                          13.20

                                        True journey time Δt = 13.10-12.00 (= 13.20 - 12.10) = 70 mins

Correction = (2*δt + δT - Δt)/2 = (2*40 + 10 - 70)/2 = 20/2 = 10 minutes

Correction is positive so he must add 10 minutes to the time his clock is showing.

you could do it just as    log58/log8   on any calc

If you want it to display bigger you can put the fraction in 'display' mode using  dfrac

It can be 'pushed' upwards OR downwards - makes no difference.
