It's not a question of right or wrong, it's just a convention.  Mathcad and Excel, for example do it one way; Matlab and webcalc2.0 do it the other way (so Andre Massow is in good company, choosing to do it that way!).

It is important to know which convention the piece of software/calculator you are using has chosen, of course!!

2 is by definition a integer

so:  5 \ 2   means integer divided by integer is by definition a integer in programming.    = [2].5

Probability of an individual surviving:  q = 1-p

Number of individuals: N = 3*10⁸

Probability of exactly 30 individuals dying = (probability of 30 dying)*(probability of N-30 surviving)*(number of ways of choosing 30 out of N) = p³⁰*q^N-30*ncr(N,30) ≈ 0.073

(This should be confirmed, or otherwise, by someone who actually knows something about probability!)
