the first one cannnot be answered correctly because it doesn't make sense.  

There is an odd number of brackets. - which simply is not allowed

And there are 2 equal signs which also does not make sense.

Sorry Kaylaa , you will need to edit your question to make it make sense!

f(x)=3x^2 - 5

f(x-1)=3(x-1)^2-5

=3(x^2-2x+1)-5

=3x^2-6x+3-5

=3x^2-6x-2

Kitty is a quiet achiever.  Many of you wonder who she is.  Well Kitty has always been my right hand girl.  She was by my side when I was the only adult and certainly the only mathematician on the forum.  I could not have coped without her.  Her answers are always of exceptional quality and her presence on this forum is still extremely highly valued.  Her star has been slow to come but it is very much deserved.  Thank you Kitty!

Now, 2 days ago I sent Andre Massow, owner and developer of the Web2.0calc.com site an email.  He responded almost immediately and many of the requests that I made have already been implemented.  We now have an inbox and an outbox.  Soon we will have a return button on our received messages.  There are many other requests and improvements as well.  I will just give you the link to the correspondance page that I have put together.

I don't agree with the analysis for the last part of the question, my analysis to follow.

70=(-7(2x+6)=2

70=(-7(2x+6)

-10=2x+6

x=-16/2

x=-8

(-7(2x+6)=2

2x+6=-2/7

2x=-2/7-6

x=-1/7-3=-22/7=-3.14

10(11n+5)=-10n-10+90n 

10(11n+5)=80n-10

11n+5=8n-1

3n=-6

n=-2

Well...let's see  ......  taking it from here

2304 + 1600 -2(48)(40) cos113  =

3904 - 3840cos(113) = 5404.40753339776

And taking the square root of this we get......

about ...  73.51

The equation of the x axis is y=0.

Think about it and make sure you understand why this is so!

So you want to know where the line y=0 and the line 3x+2y=-6  cross over each other

Put y=0 inot your equations

3x+2*0=-6

3x+0=-6

3x=-6

x=-2  

or (-2,0)

Now you have your  x intercept

There are a number of things I should discuss with you but the most pressing one is the message system and the member section.

I like many of the features that you have introduced but a lot of tweaking is definitely needed.

Introducing the avatar feature was extremely popular with all the members.

We are all receiving phantom message notifications.  Every time someone posts anything on the forum we are each sent a new message notification.

This thread was posted on the forum yesterday.  Some of the members were not very polite but they were just having fun.

I think it is good to to do questions in more than one way.

I have taught questions like this both ways.  At school with high classes they would do it from scratch but I have also taught Commercial Mathematics at a Uni College and they were given pages of formulas that they were also allowed to use in exams.  The difficult bit was learning which was the appropriate formula. 

that was such a wonderful and easy to understand answer ! after reading Roms answer i was also thinking that Rom left out that part and so it made hard to understand but now melody uve given the answer and ive understood it very well , thank u very much and a thumbs up too !

Thanks Melody, your way is much more concise. However, I deliberately wanted to construct the result step by step, in such a way that the questioner might spot the pattern, and understand where the 77 months comes from.  I guess that, since a question of this type was asked, the basic formula is already available to the questioner (though that doesn't mean they know how to identify the right one if they've been given several, I suppose!).

Looking again at what I did, I notice I skipped a few steps in summarising the formula for the amount owed at the end of each month; so perhaps my way won't be so useful in practice!
