The only answer is 5. I did this by examining a table of values.

There is bound to be a more elegant way of doing it but I do not know what it is.

$\left\lfloor n^2/4 \right\rfloor - \lfloor n/2 \rfloor^2 = 2$

So I can see that for all even numbers, positive and negative the answer will be zero.

For the odd numbers a pattern emerges.

It is clear to me that the only integer value of n to make this true is 5

I assume we have 3.424242......

Take the repeating and non-repeating part [ without the decimal ] and subtract the non-repeating part

[ 342 - 3 ] = 339 (1)

Write an integer with the same number of "9s" as the number of repeating digits = 99 (2)

Put (1) over (2) =

339 / 99

Check to see that 339 / 99 = 3.424242......

a = -4 and -3 + c = 0 → c = -3

And if the x intercept is (1, 0), then -4(1) + b = 0 → b = 4

So

f(x) = [ -4x + 4 ] / [ x - 3 ]

f(x) = [ rx + s ] / [ 2x + t ]

r = -8 and 2(3) + t = 0 → t = -6

And if the x intercept is (1, 0), then -8(1)+ s = 0 → s = 8

So

Note...... 1 + 1/3 = 4/3

So.....it leaks 1 gallon every 4/3 months

And m varies directly with the number of gallons, g, leaked....

So

m = kg and we know that m = 4/3 and g = 1.......so we can find k thusly :

(4/3) = k (1) implies that k = 4/3

So ..... m =(4/3)g

So....we want to find out how long it will take to leak 7 galllons........

m = (4/3) (7)

m = 28/3 = 9 + 1/3 months

The second answer is correct

I wouldn't worry too much......all these "world ending " predictions have been false....wouldn't surprise me if this one was too.....you probably have a better chance being hit by a meteor....
