If you are doing this without a calculator, first add 3 + 3 + 3 + 12 = 21

Then, simplify the fractions:  5(15/16) = 75/16      (multiply the 5 times 15, but not times the denominator)

To evaluate an exponent to an exponent, multiply the exponents together:  (8¹²)³  =  8³⁶

because 12 x 3 = 36.

I am still thinking about this formual

So k could be computers and N peripherals where each peripheral is attached to exactly one computer but each computer can be attached to one or more peripherals.

So the number of computers (k) must be greater or equal to the number of peripherals (N)

If there are 5 computers and 3 peripherals then

It is an odd formula.  That minus sign is really strange.   :/

(forgetting about the minius sign it could be    8*11,    2*44,   1*88 or  4*22 )

Mmm one must be neg and one must be positive because they mult to a negative.

these numbers must also add to +3.   that means the 'bigger' one is positive.

must be +11 and -8

(x+11)(x-8)=0

x+11=0   or   x-8=0

x=-11       or    x=8

I have only just found the time to get back to this question.

Finding the cross partial derivatives is easy thank you for showing me :)

I am trying to think about what these mean.  

A normal first derivative gives a gradient of a tangent.

What do partial derivatives and cross partial derivatives represent?

Can anyone give me a relatively simple maybe a pictorial presentation for these? 

Maybe it is more complicated that that?
