Big hint for younger members and guests:
Kurt can buy one pound of nails for $3.55. How many pounds of nails can Kurt buy for $12? Round to the nearest hundredth.
Many of you are really confused as to whether you should multiply or divide or perhaps do something else.
The BEST way to deal with this dilemma is to substitute easy numbers for the hard ones and see what you would do.
SO I might change this question to
Kurt can buy one pound of nails for $6 many pounds of nails can Kurt buy for $12? Round to the nearest hundredth.
Well now the answer is pretty obvious it is 2 ofcourse because 2*6=12
BUT
how can we put 6 and 12 together to get 2.
well 12 ÷ 6 = 2 So it is division!!!
12 ÷ 3.55 will be the answer!
12/3.55 = 3.3802816901408451
So he can buy 3.38 pounds of nails!
