You will need to know where the area is (under the normal curve of distribution); is it from the mean to the right?; is it evenly distributed on both sides of the mean? etc.

For your problem, a = 5, u = -1/x.   

--> a^u = 5^(-1/x) 

--> ln(a) = ln(5)

--> du/dx = d(-1/x)/dx = d(-x^-1)/dx = x^-2 

y' = 5^(-1/x) · ln(5) · (x^-2)

This is actually very simple once you know it!

To find the decimal percent equivalent, simply divide the numerator by the denominator, and then you multiply the answer you get from dividing the numerator by the denominator by 100!

Words, words, words... let's look at an example:

Let's say you want to turn $${\frac{{\mathtt{1}}}{{\mathtt{10}}}}$$ into a percentage. Just take the numerator (1) and divide it by the denominator (10) like this: 1 / 10 = 0,1.

Alright, we've got 0,1. That's a decimal. I wanted a percentage. Well then! Let's continue, multiply the value you got, which is 0,1, by 100 like this: 0,1 * 100 = 10. You got it! 10! 10%!

What about something more complicated? Like $${\frac{{\mathtt{345}}}{{\mathtt{890}}}}$$? Same principle! 345/890 = 0,3876404494382022. 0,3876404494382022 * 100 = 38,76404494382022. Answer: 38,76404494382022%.

Phew, let's hope I copy-pasted all those values correctly.

Calculus is used when you want to use the rate of change; for instance, if you know the rate of the change in the temperature in a room (along with knowing other variables), you can predict the temperature (and the rate of change of temperature) at a previous time or at a future time.

It is used to predict instantaneous rate of change.

For example, it is not hard to calculate you average speed over a period of time: speed = (final location - initial location) / (final time - initial time). 

Specific example: you are on an interstate and you pass mile marker 100 at 1:00. Later you pass mile marker 170 at 2:00. Your average speed was (170 - 100) / (2:00 - 1:00) = 70 miles / 1 hour = 70 miles per hour.

However, how do you calculate the speed of the car at the instant it drove off the road; at the instant it left the road, its final location was the same as its initial location (one point, so the distance it travelled that instant was 0 feet) and its final time was the same as its initial time (so its time was 0 seconds). Placing these values in the speed formula, you get 0 / 0. Calculus gives ways to handle these "indeterminate" expressions.

Calculus also gives ways to calculate areas and volumes (these have uses in solving problems that really have nothing to do with area and volume in the usual meanings).

Among other uses, scientific notation is used to express very large and very small quantities:

98 000 000 000 becomes 9.8 x 10^10  and  0.000 000 000 07 becomes 7 x 10^-11

Now for the interest posts, I've pulled out about a hundred, 14 to be more precise.  Oh well, here they are:

We can set this up as a linear equation using the points (16,35) and (27,12)

So, let's find the slope (m) and write the equation of the line

(35-12)/(16-27) = 23/-11 = m

So, in point-slope form, we have

y - 12 = (-23/11)(x - 27)

y = (-23/11)x + 621/11 + 12

y = (-23/11)x + 753/11

So, for x = 13, we have

y = (-23/11)(13) + 753/11 = 454/11 = about 41.27  where the "27" repeats

Note.....there may be other functions that would also model the original situation and possibly produce a different result for x = 13 !!!!

math is when you add, subtract, divide, and multiply. I know that you're too young to know this, but it includes square roots, calculus, scientific notation, etc. 

it is a complicated subject, but once you know what to do, it becomes your best friend.
