This question does not make sense but it does simplify to     $$\frac{5x}{x-3}+\frac{-15}{x-3}=\frac{5x-15}{x-3}$$

You can also do it easily on a standard hand held calculator

 (the answer will be negative meaning that it was yesterday so)     + 24 ^o ' "  =  answer: 6:28

it was entered as pm so it is still pm.  It may lead to less confussion if you used 24 hour time.

The circumference is 94.2 inches, and circumference is pi*diameter, so diameter = 94.2/pi inches.

Using 3.14 as an approximation for pi we get:

Diameter is 30 inches.  So would need a length of at least 4*30 = 120 inches of felt for four wheels. 

The area of the circular wheel is pi*diameter²/4 square inches.

Area is 706.5 square inches.  This much felt is needed to cover one wheel.

2sin²x - 1 = 0 means sinx = ±1/√2  Picture a right-angled triangle with sides 1, 1 and √2. The first-quadrant angle whose sin is 1/√2 is therefore 45°.  The second quadrant value is 135°.  The third and fourth quadrants have negative values, so here x is 225° and 315°

3tan²x - 1 = 0 means tanx = ±1/√3  Picture a right-angled triangle with sides 1, √3 and 2.  This triangle has angles 30° and 60°, with tan 30° = 1/√3. In the third quadrant tan is also positive, so tan 220° is also 1/√3.

In the second and fourth quadrants tan is negative so tan 150° and tan 330° are equal to -1/√3 .

Why don't you join up ?   It is super easy.  

So basically a log is a power (index or exponent)

Almost whenever you need to solve an equation where the unknown is an exponent then you will need to use logarithms.     

You may be interested to work through this unit.

Anonymous's answer is incorrect.  It was correct up to the last line but then I think the answer was read off the calculator incorrectly.

You answer is correct except that you have introduced a little error by saying that pi=3.14

This is just a 2 decimal place approximation for pi.  if you had used pi from the calculator then your answer would not have been 20cm. It would have been 19.0999cm correct to 4 decimal places.  OR 19cm correct to the nearest whole number.

Anyway the only error in your solution is rounding error.
